General Info

Title
Bandeirantes
Description
Composition in shades of green, blue, ochre, gray, red, orange, pink, white, earth tones, and black. Smooth and thick texture. Composition depicting bandeirantes and indigenous people in the middle of a forest. The entire composition is geometrically structured with lighter and larger colored areas in the foreground. From left to right, we see: a figure of a bandeirante, standing facing forward, legs apart, with a suggested hat and arms at his sides, holding a revolver in his right hand; in the center, three bandeirantes, two with their backs turned and one facing forward, all standing and wearing wide-brimmed hats. The one on the left has his left arm raised and his right arm bent as if he were holding his face; the one in the center has his arms at his sides and holds an axe in his right hand; and the one on the right, facing forward, has the suggested facial features, looks in the direction of the first two, and holds a rifle in his left hand. A wide, vertical stripe in shades of green, blue, earth, and orange suggests dividing the composition. On the right, aligned with the other figures, we see a man, probably Indigenous, kneeling, facing forward, with his torso tilted downward, his arms close to the ground, and his hands cupped, holding something defined in a green hue. We also see two short, almost vertical sticks resting on his shoulders and near his hands. Further back, behind this figure, three Indigenous people stand in profile to the left, carrying a canoe supported on their heads. Their arms are raised, their hands holding the vessel, and their legs are spread apart, indicating they are walking. The background is in very dark tones, defining dense forest represented by vertical geometric areas and small, light areas that suggest light penetration.
