Centenary – Buenos Aires Exhibition

2004

With the sponsorship of Petrobras and the support of the Brazilian embassy in Buenos Aires, the Portinari Project and the Brazilian Studies Center Foundation (FUNCEB) carried out a series of actions and events in Argentina in 2004, in celebration of the Portinari Centenary.

This project highlighted the "Portinari" exhibition, held at the Peuser Hall in 1947, and the conference "The Social Meaning of Art", given in 1947 and 1948 in Buenos Aires and Montevideo. The activities were part of the Cultural Cooperation Program between the Argentine Republic and the Federative Republic of Brazil from 2004 to 2007, receiving full support from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture of both countries.

The "Portinari Centenary - Argentina" included the "Portinari Exhibition" at the Fundación PROA, presenting original works by the painter and his relationship with Argentina and Uruguay, the conference cycle "El Sentido Social del Arte" and its respective publications, as well as the implementation of the educational program "Portinari's Brazil" in Argentine schools.
