The War and Peace Project – Restoration – Gustavo Capanema Palace, Rio de Janeiro

The arrival of the War and Peace panels for restoration in Brazil provided an exceptional opportunity to introduce students, researchers, and the interested public to the modern restoration procedures and techniques used in the country. In addition, the restoration process allowed for detailed scientific documentation of the panels.

The restoration workshop was open to the public at the Gustavo Capanema Palace from February to May 2011, with free admission, attracting more than 7,000 visitors. The interventions to preserve the panels were carried out by a team of 18 Brazilian restorers, under the technical coordination of Professor Edson Motta Jr. (UFRJ) and Cláudio Valério Teixeira.
