"... Before painting catechesis, I read all the Jesuit letters. Anchieta, Nóbrega, Manuel de Paiva, Luiz da Grã were men who suffered, who fought. The Jesuits cut through dense forests, mixed with the Indians. Their hands, like those of the "bandeirantes", were hands used to strenuous work, big and deformed. The feet that stepped on stones and bogs had to be hard and flat ..." (*)
